Olympiad anybody?

Malaysia’s Road to Samarkand: MCF Opens Selection for Final Olympiad Squad Spot

The Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) is inviting talented Malaysian chess players to compete for the last remaining spot on the Men/Open team heading to the 46th FIDE World Chess Olympiad, taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from 15–28 September 2026.

With the Women’s Team fully confirmed, MCF is now focused on completing its Men/Open lineup with one final selection. Once filled, Malaysia’s full Olympiad contingent will be ready for registration.

A proud and nearly unbroken tradition

Malaysia’s participation in the Chess Olympiad stretches back decades. Since MCF’s founding in 1974, the country has missed the Olympiad only once — the 1976 edition held in Haifa, Israel. Malaysia also opted not to participate in a separate protest event held that same year in Tripoli, Libya. Outside of that single exception, Malaysia has been a consistent presence on the world chess stage.
